Welding Coordinator

Your mission

Key Responsibilities: 

1. Welding Coordination 
  • Act as the responsible Welding Coordinator in accordance with EN 15085 requirements.
  • Coordinate all welding activities from contract review through final inspection.
  • Ensure welding activities comply with approved WPS, engineering drawings, quality plans, and customer specifications.
  • Review welding requirements during project kick-off and production planning.
  • Verify that only qualified welders and approved welding procedures are used for production.

2. EN 15085 & ISO 3834 Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with EN 15085 certification requirements for railway vehicle and component manufacturing.
  • Implement and maintain the Factory Production Control (FPC) system related to welding activities. 
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 3834 quality requirements for fusion welding of metallic materials. 
  • Support surveillance audits, renewal audits, customer audits, and third-party inspections.
  • Maintain readiness for certification assessments.

3. Welding Procedure Qualification
  • Prepare, review, approve, and maintain: o Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) o Procedure Qualification Records (PQR) o Welder Qualification Records (WQR/WPQR).
  • Coordinate welding procedure qualification trials.
  • Ensure welding procedures remain valid for the applicable materials, joint designs, welding positions, and processes.

4. Welder Qualification & Competency
  • Plan qualification and requalification of welders.
  • Verify validity of welder qualification certificates.
  • Maintain a welder qualification matrix and skill records.
  • Conduct periodic competency evaluations and identify training requirements.

5. Production Monitoring
  • Monitor welding activities on the shop floor. 
  • Ensure compliance with approved process parameters.

  • Monitor production quality, welding productivity, and repair rates.
  • Provide technical guidance to supervisors and welders.

6. Material & Consumable Control 
  • Verify welding consumables are approved and suitable for the applicable welding procedure.
  • Ensure correct storage, baking, drying, and issue of electrodes and filler materials.
  • Maintain complete consumable traceability.
  • Verify material certificates and heat number traceability before welding.

7. Inspection & Testing

  • Coordinate visual inspection and NDT activities. 
  • Review inspection reports and ensure acceptance criteria are met. 
  • Coordinate repair welding activities where required. 
  • Ensure repair procedures comply with approved standards.

8. Quality Documentation 
  • Maintain and control: o WPS o PQR o Welder Qualification Records o Weld Maps o Traceability Records o NDT Reports o Inspection Reports o Calibration Certificates o Welding Consumable Records o Daily Welding Logs 
  • Ensure documentation is complete before product release. 

9. Root Cause Analysis & Continuous Improvement 
  • Investigate welding defects and customer complaints. 
  • Lead root cause analysis using methods such as 5 Why and Fishbone Analysis.
  • Implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Monitor effectiveness of implemented actions.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce rework and welding defects.

10. Equipment Management 
  • Ensure welding machines are calibrated and maintained. 
  • Verify calibration status before production.
  • Coordinate preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Ensure welding accessories remain in suitable working condition.

11. Health, Safety & Environment
  • Promote safe welding practices. 
  • Ensure compliance with company safety procedures.
  • Verify correct use of PPE.
  • Ensure safe handling of shielding gases and welding consumables.
  • Promote housekeeping and safe work practices.

Your profile

To coordinate, control, and continuously improve all welding activities associated with railway products, ensuring compliance with EN 15085, ISO 3834, customer specifications, approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), applicable international standards, and statutory requirements. The Welding Coordinator is responsible for maintaining welding quality, ensuring product safety, and supporting certification requirements throughout the manufacturing process.
